What Happens When You Don't Know How To Release Emotion

By Deborah Moore

Without expressing emotions with one another, people begin to experience psychological issues. Often, this can happen because of the way a person has been brought up or because of what they have been taught. It is unhealthy to repress these feelings. This is why one needs to learn how to release emotion in any form.

A lot of people become depressed, anxious, shameful or angry. However, they remember what their parents have told them. Parents tell children to stay strong. They tell boys not to cry and to be a big boy. This will have a negative impact on them as they grow up. They believe that men are not supposed to show their feelings.

When your father is distant and your mother shows you love in the form of materialism, it can be difficult to know how to show emotions. You can be overwhelmed and it is not easy to know where to start. It can interfere with the way in which you relate to other people. You will struggle with relationships. It may also interfere with your work performance.

When anger begins to brew up inside of you, you will often bottle this up until it becomes so great, that you become depressed and suffer from various other forms of psychological disorders. It is not only the psychological issues, but it is also physical pain that can come up from time to time. People can struggle with headaches and stomach ache and back pain, for example.

If something traumatic happens as a child, it can be too difficult to talk about it. This is understandable. A child like this will turn to other forms of entertainment which will distract them and they will block out the trauma in their lives. But it will be in their subconscious. They won't forget about this. It will still be there as they grow up.

As they mature into an adult, they will still find that there are certain things that can cause flashbacks. Triggers will set them off. When this happens, they will begin to feel fearful or panic. One feels numb or trapped. Therapy will help someone like this. At first, expressing your feelings is not easy. After all, this is not something that you have done before.

However, there are various techniques that therapists use. This can even relate to art and creative therapy. The process is slow, but over time, the individual will learn how to process this and to get rid of the toxic energy which has filled them in a negative way all of their lives.

It is necessary to be more practical about helping someone like this. They will typically be negative about themselves. They need to love themselves, first and foremost in order to love others. They also need to recognize what the problem was and how it affected their lives. When they can begin to accept themselves, then they will begin to be more positive about life and those around them. This is part of the process. Relationships will improve as will their overall lifestyle.
