According to health authorities, poor management of stress can cause many different health problems to strike. The blood pressure, for instance, may become elevated and it can increase an individual's risk of suffering from heart disease. Type 2 diabetes may also come into being as a result of insulin resistance due to constantly elevated blood sugar.

Some people attempt to deal with stress in ways that can make everything worse. Such is the case for those who resort to cigarette smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol, and use of illegal drugs or substances. There are some people whose eating habits become unhealthy, thus increasing their risk of suffering from health problems such as obesity.
