Outright Indicators That You Are In Need Of Anxiety Counseling

By Peter Murphy

Most people do not understand mental disorders. Patients are often misjudged and the majorities of them will even be in denial until things turn from bad to worse. Anxiety in particular is a mentally crippling disorder that is unfortunately very common. Patients are constantly tormented by feelings of stress and nervousness and if the problem is overlooked, it could negatively impact all areas of their lives. There are several outright indicators that one is in need of anxiety counseling.

There are various kinds of anxiety disorders. They include phobias, generalized anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). All of them can reduce the quality of life and the need to see a licensed counselor must not be overlooked.

It is normal for people to worry from time to time. However, if you frequently feel worried, then something is terribly amiss. Such a feeling will often keep you on edge and this will make your life miserable and challenging. Such symptoms characterize general anxiety issues and patients could also suffer from sleeplessness and panic attacks.

Panic attacks can last for as long as half an hour. During this time, the patient will go into an episode of extreme fear and may also get nauseated and feel dizzy. Other symptoms that may present themselves include hyperventilation, hot flashes, chills, an increased heart rate, and a strong feeling of being in danger or being at risk of dying. Panic attacks are sometimes triggered by certain environments for reasons that are not clear.

If a disorder goes untreated, then it could begin showing some physical symptoms. The majorities of patients will suffer from indigestion, nausea and frequent stomach aches. They could also show symptoms such as diarrhea, (IBS) irritable bowel syndrome, cramping and gas. These pains, coupled with apprehension could make even a mild situation to seem like it is out of hand.

Apprehension can hold your life back on different levels. Even though daily life is not always a smooth road, patients are likely to dodge any situation that may seem stressful. Because of this their social, school or work life can get badly affected. Social anxiety disorder makes one afraid to do anything that could attract attention from others.

It is also normal for those suffering from apprehension disorders to over-think. They will be unable to take their minds off major problems and even the small stuff. This often results to their sleeping patterns being affected and sleeplessness worsens their mental health and even affects their physical well-being.

Inner peace and a feeling of happiness from time to time can go a long way in keeping one mentally, emotionally and physically healthy. Anxiety is a problem that could deprive you of all these good sentiments. If you are in need of help, ensure that you find a qualified, licensed and seasoned therapist.
