Rebuilding The New World After A Disaster

By Anna West

It is almost impossible to imagine a global disaster because it is so unthinkable and would completely change the lives of everybody on the planet. There is a huge number of threats that could change the Earth in ways that would make current societies crumble. It is a comfort to know, however, that former civilizations of the past were able to rebuild their society after events like these, letting the people of today know that rebuilding the new world is possible.

Without the knowledge of the past, such as history and science, mankind would have a hard time thriving after a disaster. It is highly important that measures are taken to preserve these learnings in this situation. This information could be the key to finding a way to rebuild society in a better way.

When a major catastrophe strikes that threatens the lives of a vast number of people, one of the first things to go are the laws and governments that once kept societies stable. The loss of this stability can lead to widespread deaths and general chaos, and it is important for order to be restored as quickly as possible. It is sometimes the case that in the reforming of governments, more just laws can be established.

It is possible for people to survive on their own when terrible disasters have struck. However, they increase their chances of making it by finding a group to be a part of. Having a group means having protections and someone to provide when that person is sick or weak.

It would be ideal if the society that is formed after a major catastrophe has wounded mankind was more conscious of the environment than ever before. It is quite possible that any disaster that might threaten humanity could be caused by their own impact on the environment. If a new society was more aware of this and respected the responsibility to be in harmony with the environment, more catastrophes might be avoided.

The initial periods after a catastrophic incident are usually about survival and nothing more. The ability to preserve one's self in the face of these kinds of conditions is what separates those who live from those who die in these kinds of situations. However, there comes a time after the initial survival period in which it becomes time to thrive.

There are many people that die all the time from not washing their hands, and this is a very critical practice in the times directly after a disaster has hit. When resources are scarce, there probably will not be access to medicine and antibiotics to help someone get better from having harmful bacteria enter their body. The best thing to do is prevent it before it happens and simply keep the hands clean.

Most people don't like to have to think about going to the bathroom and where they will do it, but this is an important thing to consider when trying to survive after a disaster has occurred. The first thing to do is figure out where the water is going to come from. If there is a well or other such water source, any outhouse or similar latrine structure should be placed no less than 20 meters away in order to prevent the water from becoming contaminated.
