One of the big reasons why a lot of people learn this, though, is to be able to protect themselves from harmful people. It is nice to have a fun reason to do it to, though.

Like in a lot of competitive fighting sports like this, sparring is quite common and is used to get better by practicing fighting against another person who is at a comparable skill level. Another way that this is often referred to is as rolling. This and live drilling make up a big part of how you will be trained in this.

As a sport, it is a great way to get some exercise, it is a great character builder for the youngsters, in addition to the benefit of being a self-defense technique.
